A tall, black haired man with pointed ears and a military uniform steps through the door, and freezes. This is not the bridge. He silently surveys the strange room for a moment, his calm expression not flickering despite the shock and alarm that courses through him until he manages to surpress the automatic emotional response. A hotel, Terran ( Read more... )

"Isn't it?"

Jon Osterman, the blue glowing superbeing more commonly known as Dr. Manhattan, stands just outside the doors in the sunlight, fixing Spock with a look that might be thoughtful if it weren't so stoic. "Every entrance into this plane of reality appears to come as a surprise. Unfortunately, exiting has thus far proven impossible."

Spock might have looked surprised if he wasn't so Vulcan. The man is blue, glowing and (nearly?) naked. He can't think of any sentient species offhand that glow. But there are more important questions, such as what the man means by 'this plane of reality.' "Have we fallen through some sort of spatial or temporal rift, then? I cannot recall anything that could have caused such an event..."

"That appears to be the most likely explanation," he answers; Spock may be one of the few island-dwellers who will appreciate the physics lecture immediately upon arrival, but he has little else he will offer. "All examination leads to the conclusion that it is a self-contained pocket reality. The location is highly unique in that it appears to draw beings from varying universes. Thus far I have not been able to discern any pattern in those who have arrived, but for whatever reason, this reality expands to accomodate them."

It would seem much more unlikely if not for certain recent events. Spock just nods. "Are there any theorys regarding how people arrive here? I was unaware of any anomaly and I did not feel any sort of movement."

"It has been put forward that we are drawn here by a sentient force," Jon reports. "I do not believe this to be the case; such a theory is highly illogical. New arrivals are often bewildered by the location, most entries as accidental as yours."

He talks like a Vulcan. Spock appreciates it, it helps him maintain his own logical objectivity. "It is possible that it is a natural phenomenon, but it is also possible that it could have been somehow triggered by an intelligent being, whether or not it is or can be controlled." He's seen an artificially created black hole before, he's not ruling anything out just yet.

To Jon's satisfaction, the hotel is home to a number of highly scientific individuals with whom he has conversed. In this sense Spock's appearance is a welcome addition, albeit a small pleasure. "While within the bounds of possibility," he agrees, "examination of the location yields no signs of former inhabitants or outside visitation. Matter is created in this space, not merely transported; if any being is manipulating this plane of reality, they have managed it without leaving any identifiable traces."

"It is possible that if there was a being who created this place that they do not directly control it, which would account for the apparent randomness." He pauses for a moment, considering. "Is there any proof that matter is not simply drawn here from elsewhere, as we were? There could be some connection to wormhole theory, something similar to a micro black hole."
