Charlie - not Squeaky's Charlie, this confusion happens often - bounds over, perhaps drawn by the power of his book. Flopping down on the floor beside her, he asks, rather awkwardly: "Enjoying it, sweet cakes?"

Squeaky peers at him for a moment, glances at the book, and then back at Charlie. "I. love. it," she says slowly, beaming. "It's like confusing a bunch, but then it all comes together, y'know? It makes sense. Do you know anything about vending machines?"

"Vending machines?" says Charlie thoughtfully. "No, I know nothing about... vending machines. But I know a lot about many other things. Like hats!"

"Oooh!" she squeals. "I think there's a hat shop somewhere, d'you wanna go? I'll get matching hats for me 'n' Charlie."
