*simply* Because. Now you need to answer these questions.

1) You are in an old building, where nobody has been in a long time. You discover a set of stairs leading to the basement. How many steps are there?
2) The underground room is completely dark, but you hear somebody. Is that person weeping softly? Moaning wordlessly? Speaking to you?
3) How do you react to the voice? Do you try to seek out the source? Immediately run for the stairs? Stand paralyzed with fear?
4) Now you hear someone calling your name, descending frm the light at the top of the stairs. Who is it?

I-- fine. Twenty-four, probably threatening me, get out as quickly as possible without being killed, and-- oh, I don't know. Zaknafein. What is this about?

Abandoned buildings are highly symbolic of buried memories and old psychological scars, according to this book.

The number of steps represents the impact of the psychological scars you are bearing. The sounds you heard represent how you got through bad experiences in the past -- apparently, by threatening people? And, in the present, you attempt to ignore painful remembrances of the past, skipping past them as quickly as you can. Lastly, the person you saw at the top of the stairs is someone you feel you can rely on in times of trouble.

See? Wasn't that fun? *beam*
