DF Theatre company?

The idea of a theatrical company has come up once or twice here, as some of you may already know. Well, I rather like the idea, so I was wondering just who else might be interested in such a thing. We would need actors, of course, which I'm sure would be no trouble here, given the extraordinarily dramatic tendencies of many here, and a director or ( Read more... )

*clears throat* I shall act, of course, my good man.

Thou shalt not perform my play. I forbid it.

I wonder, who would play the title role?

...*glowerly* And would the good Courfeyrac again assume the role of my mother?

Not your play, Prince? Why ever not? It is a masterwork, after all.

But do tell me-- what would you suggest instead?

*blinks* 'Tis the tale of the death of my father, and my mother, and my uncle, and the fair Ophelia and her family, and my two childhood friends-- and lastly, sir, of my own demise. And thou dost ask why I wish never to see such a thing again, beyond the memories that shall haunt me always?

*shrug* Les Miserables?

Typist: I vote for Hamlet, personally.

Look at it as art-- tragic and lovely, and nothing to do with the real world at all. Or stay home, if you like. It won't be the only play, after all.

Perhaps we should go the route of a comedy, instead. A Midsummer Night's Dream? I'm sure Miss Vane could play a fantastic Helena.

typist: :D We'll have to take a vote or something, but I'm all for Hamlet.

Nothing to do with the real world? 'Tis only a phantasm, then, a dream, this tale of how the fairest Denmark fell to pieces about my ankles? *le sigh* Thou wouldst not understand, of course. But very well.

Ay, indeed-- something that might lift the spirits and then only Puck might take offense.

Typist: It's my personal favourite and well, it's always fun to torture this guy.

Ah, but if tragedy becomes art, it is no longer life, and one can observe it objectively. When one is too attached to the tragedies of their lifetime, one can never be free of them. Dreams fade, and with them, the pains within them. But if you cannot think of it that way, you are in no way obliged to participate, of course.

I doubt Puck would take much offense, really, but if it comes to it, there's still Much Ado About Nothing, or perhaps As You Like It. And that's only if we stay with Shakespeare. There are other playwrights, after all.
