Hi, my name's Mia. Except it's really Amelia, but no one except Grandmere calls me that. Everybody calls me Mia. And I live in a loft in New York with my mom, who just had a baby, and her husband, Mr. G, my MATH TEACHER. How randomly sucky is that? My mom married my MATH TEACHER. She went in for a conference with him about my grades, and ended up ( Read more... )

*bows* Your highness.

*smiles easily* I doubt very much your grandmother wants you to become a woman who cares only about her appearance. Etiquette was never my favorite subject - I have always preferred philosophy and history - but it is very important nonetheless. When you know how to control what others see of you, how to put them at their ease, slip past their guard, and command a room, you will be a much stronger voice for what you care about.

But that makes me sound terribly dull, doesn't it? I'm Kelson Haldane, of Gwynedd, and I'm very pleased to meet you.

Oh, no, you really don't have to do that. Really!

It seems like it. She's tried to completely change my apprence, and she has, in a way. Next thing you know she'll be monitoring the clothes I buy...wait, she already does that. She's about ready to ban me from wearing combat boots. You know, I could sell those clothes she makes me wear and feed starving children in Africa? Hmm...I think I should do that....
Sorry, I've gotten off topic.

You don't seem dull at all. In fact, you've made me look at things from a different side.

'Course I do, dear lady. Royalty must show respect to royalty.

...I forgot to mention that, didn't I? Sorry. It's King Kelson. I'm afraid I'm used to the surname telling everyone just who I am.

*laughs* You remind me of Morgan. You sound just like him while we were finally bullying him out of his constant faded black. The look on his face when Archbishop Cardiel told him to stop playing the Adversary when he's far too good a man for the role - ! *savors the memory*

More seriously, though, I know what you mean. I don't like fussy clothes. I'm much more used to it than you are - I've had eighteen years of practice - but it's still deucedly frustrating. Blech. Unfortunately for you and I, there are some things that go with such positions. Along with the ability to do a lot of good you get the inconvenient sleeves. It's a trade off.

Image is, alas, important, but paying attention to it doesn't mean you have to stop paying attention to other things. *grins* I haven't.

You're royalty? If I had known that... *Attempts curtsey*

Who's Morgan? He sounds interesting. And thank you for the advice!

*smiles*

Morgan is the Duke of Corwyn - he was my father's best friend and most trusted general, and he's my Champion. I've known him all my life, and he's one of the the most trustworthy people I know. He always keeps his promises, he's got a wonderful sense of humor, and he puts up with my fits of petulance and foolishness amazingly well. I don't know how he manages to tell me when I'm being ridculous without ever rebuking me, but he does.

He married the lady Richenda a few years ago, which is why we were trying to get him to stop wearing just black - or it's why Derry and and I were. Archbishop Cardiel had other reasons.
