Poking into things

Sam Spade is not only around, he's probably noticeably around, much more so than is normal. Spade had long ago learned that meddling in mysteries in the Mansion was as effective as slamming his head against a wall. Repeatedly. Still, Anita'd asked him to look into it, and maybe five millionth time would be a charm ( Read more... )

Here's someone very unhelpful. For one, he knows he died but doesn't know how, he's the least magic being around, and he doesn't know squat about anything that happened to Anita.

But he likes Sam?

At any rate, here he is. Being unhelpfully friendly.

"Monsieur Spade!"

"Hey, doc." He smiles, a touch dry. "How're you holding up these days?"

"Well enough, thank you," Pascal replies with a friendly smile. "I haven't seen you in a long time, are you well?"

"Well enough. Heard a rumor you ran afoul of something nasty, though."

Here's someone whom Sam has never met, and who can be marginally helpful.

Robin Goodfellow is in the kitchen, drinking tea and frowning, reflecting on whether or not he should go out and try to hunt down Helen.

"It's a wonder there are still tea leaves left," Spade comments, leaning against the doorframe.

Robin looks up. "Blame it on those crazy elves," he says with a bit of a grim smile. "You'd think they import it from whereever they grow it. It's not bad, though."

He nods. "Amazing, what you can get used to when you don't have a choice."

Firekeeper can be helpful! And is in the kitchen, crosslegged on the floor, plucking a bird and looking a bit of a mess. She probably caught it herself.

She's quite relaxed, though, in a good mood.

Spade, though he's not met her that the typist can recall would have had a description off Anita, as Firekeeper is definitely someone he wants to talk to. He smiles, lopsidedly, at the mess of the plucked bird. "Making a go of it, I see."

She looks up and grins, brightly. "It was a little slow," modestly.

"The bird?" He smirks a bit. "Well, serves the thing right, I guess."

Well, here's a Sandor, sprawled on a couch sharpening his sword again, and periodically taking a couple gulps of wine, grimacing at the taste. The Mansion has apparently decided to stop giving him anything good.

One eye is cocked toward the door, as always, and he's listening, as always, ready to move to do something deadly with the naked steel across his legs. However, most immediately noticeable are the burn scars that he makes no attempt to hide.

Most noticeable, perhaps, but not the first thing Spade comments on when comes in from an interior door. He raises his eyebrows and says, "Expecting company?"

He looks up and raises his eyebrow, expression almost blank. "No."

"Well, that's good. Man might get jumpy around a blade that big, otherwise."
