Definately NOT Home

Jasper Hale walked through the front door of the Cullen house... so he thought.

But apparently he is very much mistaken because the entryway presented before him is neither surrounded by panes of glass nor ringing with the familiar tune of welcome that his wife, Alice, never neglected to give.  Hands clasped firmly behind his back, the once-soldier takes a few stealthy steps into the foreign territory and then stops.

With every breath, he can taste the emotion that lingers in the air.  It is thick with angst, anticipation, passion and something else... But there is no hint of tranquility, no scent of peace. No matter how hard he grasps at the pleasant feelings, they dissipate like wisps of cloud.

And so, with foresight enough to note that there are humans afoot, Jasper takes a deep breath and reserves it for speech later, so as not to be tempted by anyone he should pass by.

“Hello?” his soft, southern drawl rang through the corridors.

(Typist: Jasper Hale from Stephenie Meyer's book series Twilight. Taken from the very end of Eclipse.)
