the dragon's daughter

(Just when you thought there couldn’t possibly be any more of King Arthur’s children unaccounted for…)

Goewin is looking for Lleu.

She is Arthur and Guinevere’s daughter, Lleu’s twin sister and his senior by a few scant minutes. She’s not sure whether she’ll find him alive or dead-or worse, some terrible state in between-and she may be so fixed on ( Read more... )

This one, we don't know if you will remember, or recognize.

Merlin - his younger self, today - is on the porch, pondering a few things, overall relaxed, and certainly uninterested in meddling.

He's friendly, though.

she will neither remember nor recognize him, but she knows who he is. (His entry into and disappearance from her father's life is on the vague side, and probably happened before she was born, but we can assume she's heard of him.)

She looks up, frowning. "Excuse me, sir; I am lost."

"Oh, so you are." He smiles, a little. "Many who come here are lost, though most do not have as much determination as you do. No need to brace - you are safe here."

Self-consciously, she relaxes her grip on the spear.

"I am looking for my brothers. Their trail has disappeared entirely."

"It happens, occasionally. You are no longer in Britain, I'm afraid, my girl."

She shakes her head, frowning. She has a rather stern face even without the frown. "What do you mean?" A pause, and the lines deepen. "You know me?"

Merlin calls everyone my girl, my lass, my lad. Even Mordred, with very amusing results.

"We have never met," he replies quietly, gently, reassuringly. "But I know you."

"Well, then, perhaps you can tell me what I'm to do here?"

(We would really truly love to see what happens when Merlin calls Mordred "my girl." hee)

*gigglefit!* We would too - they haven't interacted in a while, actually - though Merlin did stick to my lad, last time.

"There is little purpose to this place, save to test your will and your valor. No doubt Sir Kay will put your skills to good use without waiting - the Old Ways are impenetrable in their objectives, lass."

He's quite amused, so far, that she isn't asking his name.

She is, somewhat irritatingly, given to discovering what a person is before she finds out who. Names could mean anything. And they could be disguises.

"I have not had much traffic with the Old Ways, sir."

"Perhaps they have, with you, lass." He gives her a small smile. "You are as determined as your father."

"What do you know of my father?"

He smiles, a little. "I suppose telling you my name would be insufficient, perhaps?" He smiles, still wizened despite his younger form.

"I am the Merlin."

She knows the name. She knows the story of her father's birth, and how he became king. She doesn't know much beyond that and doesn't need to; it is enough.

"Why have you come to me?" she says in a whisper, and then drops to one knee with her head bent. "My lord, I am honored to know you."

"Oh please, please rise. No one bows to me anymore, Lady Goewin." He smiles, still, though, grandfatherly despite his age.

"I came because I knew you were here, and that you would need guidance, simply."

She does stand, jaw clenched to ward off tears, because this is surely the most exciting and frightening thing that has ever happened to her. Unless she's dreaming, of course. And although that seems likely, it doesn't feel like she's dreaming.

"You know my quest, then."
