Philip woke up in the middle of the woods, head aching from the blow it had received. He found himself, however, able to get to his feet. It's not inconceivable that in his walking, Father Philip would come across an older man with long hair, a long beard, smoking a sweet-smelling pipe.

The old git is busy picking plants, muttering things to himself.

Father, meet Merlin. This should be interesting.

"Welcome, Father," Merlin replies amiably. He smells of it. Clearly - pious people have a specific psychic scent, and as Christianity was the end of the Old Ways, Merlin is particularly attune to that.

It's one of the reasons he never approached Anita Blake.

The monk's robes make it plain enough to most people, so Philip doesn't find the assumption odd. "Bless you, goodman." And he moves to go the direction Merlin indicated.
