Well this is... new. (Introduction)

Philip woke up in the middle of the woods, head aching from the blow it had received. He found himself, however, able to get to his feet. Nothing looked familiar... they must have been taking himself somewhere when he fell off the horse or cart they had tied him to. Odd, certainly, but in such chaotic times ( Read more... )

Well, here you go, Father. A Victorian socially climbing prostitute, just for you.

A young woman might be wandering alone, around the mansion, smiling to herself for not apparently good reason.

Her dress is not suggestive - a typical Edwardian dress, that of a governess, or a young lady of lesser rank. She's a red-head, with bad skin - chapped lips and very, very dry hands, but the way she walks is suggestive.

"Good day, my child," he says. Her style of dress is certainly strange to him, but she seems friendly enough.

Sugar isn't big on religion - but she's taken the habit of keeping up appearances, ever since she became Sophie's guardian.

"Good day, Father," she says, replying by reflex. Oh. She pauses. He's not quite adequate to her period.

Being still new to the Mansion, she hasn't quite the hang of the whole mixed universes thing.

They must be near a town of some sort; she's well dressed, apparently unarmed, and walking alone. "Might you point me in the direction of the nearest village?"

“Not a village, Father,” she says, “but a Mansion.” She frowns apologetically. “I will lead you to it, if you will.”

"Very well, my child. I thank you."

So she turns into her tracks, proceed to lead him back. “Pray tell, Father, where is it that you came from?”

"Kingsbridge. I am the prior there."

"In Devon, aye?" Smiling.

She's not particularly keen on the religion, but he's not preaching at her - that's nice.

"It's closest to Shiring." Because it's a fictional Kingsbridge, which makes geography confusing. "I'd traveled to see the king, but with the war..."

“The war, Father?”

He blinks. "The war between King Stephen and the Emperess Maud." It's not the sort of thing one misses, living in England during his time.

She stares at him as though he were mad.

"...what is it?"

"I am not sure I ever heard of an Empress Maud," she says carefully. "Though I am sure I should have."

"The late King Henry's daughter," he says, gently, as if a reminder. "She's been contesting the king's claim to the throne along with her half brother Robert of Gloucester."
