Introduction?

The sun is, as always, reluctant to release its grip. He can feel his body waking from the trancelike slumber of the day, but the slowness is still agonizing, the feeling of drawn out helplessness. After all, if someone were to kill him, tradition dictates that this would be the time, when he is alive but still unable to fight back. Understandably, perhaps, it makes even him a little nervous. So, as usual, he strains against the lingering lethargy, fighting to discern something beyond the immediacy of the necessary darkness of his bedroom. However, what he finds is thoroughly unusual.

There is nothing familiar about the bloodscents around him. Nothing. And not only that, but...he can smell the others, more than one, that have been here, have been near this place, at least. A hiss escapes through teeth suddenly clenched with instinctive territorialism. Until he remembers that this isn't his territory. After far too long, he rises, slipping out of the sheets and looking automatically for the windows that must be here if there are, as he can smell, mortals here. But there are none.

Still frowning, on his guard but trying to stay calm - if I were to be dead, I would be dead right now - and strolls down the hallway, frowning at the building in general and trying to take everything in at once. Please welcome Henry Fitzroy, one very confused vampire.

Typist: From the Blood Books by Tanya Huff - he's generally standard vampire material, and would really like an explanation.
