[re-introducing Harry Potter]

Aug 20, 2007 21:24

It's a cold, damp evening at the Mansion, not long after sunset. It was raining earlier, and there's a heavy fog covering the grounds, which, in addition to making the place quite a bit wetter than usual, gives everything a rather mysterious, eerie look, even more than usual ( Read more... )

And what better of a person to open the door and greet him than good old Loony Luna Lovegood, who hasn't quite significantly changed for either the better or the worse since the war?

She smiles at him, the same perpetually faint and dreamy expression still on her face. "Hello, Harry."

"Luna!" Harry's surprised to see her, but maybe less surprised than by most of the other people who could've opened the door. "What are you doing here? What am I doing--where's here? ...and, um, can you let me in? It's really cold out here."

"I'm not quite certain, because you needed to be here, perhaps? -- somewhere that definitely isn't England, and of course--" She replies calmly, stepping aside and gesturing into the Mansion.

"Thanks," he says, a little dazed by the slew of answers, and limps into the foyer.

"Bloody--what is this?" he says, gaping around the opulent, lavishly-decorated room. "Besides not England, I mean."

"It's-- well, I suppose a more complicated version of an explanation would be that it's a mansion in the middle of nowhere with magical properties and a lot of people that we know, some dead and some alive, as well as a lot of people that we don't know, and it also has the tendency to be mischievous, almost as if the mansion's alive. Oh, and people who die come back to life after a little while." Everything is spoken in a matter-of-fact tone, and now she points at the leg that he was just limping on. "You might want to sit down somewhere."

"...right," says Harry, even more dazed. "Er--" He sits carefully down on a chair which happens to be placed just beside the main door, and does a little more staring. "Did you say the mansion was alive? --wait a minute. People who are dead--?"

"I'm sure you'll find out what I mean by that," she smiles a slightly mysterious smile. "I have the feeling it's a little overwhelming right now. The mansion is kind of alive, though. It reminds me of Hogwarts in a way."

"Then -- then that's not bad, is it?" he asks, desperate to be told this is all right, it's all fine, and he can relax--to be told this, even by loony Luna. "If it's like Hogwarts, I mean. That was overwhelming, too, when we were first-years..."

Luna tilts her head for a moment, thinking. "It can be dangerous sometimes, but no, it isn't really a bad place. It's actually pretty fun if you get used to it; there are so many people to meet and talk to -- why, even Godric Gryffindor's here, did you know?"

"Godric Gryffindor? No, I didn't know! Of course I didn't--how'd you get here?"

She blinks for a moment, as if she hadn't even thought of that. And then calmly, "You know, I have no idea. It must be the Nargles."

Harry stares blankly at her for a moment, and then slowly grins. Dark Lords may come and go, but Luna will always be Luna. "That must be it," he agrees.

"Nargles can be blamed for a lot of things." She nods towards his leg, "Are you feeling any better?"

"A little," he says. "I don't think it's broken or I wouldn't've been able to walk all this way on it. It's just my ankle's twisted a little or something...I didn't make a very good landing."
