Easter Eggs!

The table is littered with tools, jars of dye, and piles of hollowed eggs. She picks one and begins to draw designs onto the shell. Sir Percy is in the kitchen looking for something in one of the drawers there--he's discovered that they're great for finding obscure odds and ends--and as soon as he finds what he wants and pockets it, he comes over to the table and flops down across from her. "Oooh, hi. Are you gettin' ready for Easter?"

"I know not what Easter is, but these are for Pascha." She gestures to the eggs and smiles at Percy. Just at first glance he seems exactly like her cousins, even down to the flop.

"What's Pascha? Easter's when Jesus come back to life. It's my favourite holiday." He beams at her.

[border_princess]

"I have heard some of the people here call it Easter. Pascha is what they call it in my land."

[fingersofleaf]

"But it means that same thing, yeah?"

[border_princess]

"Yes it does. Are you getting ready for it, too?"

[fingersofleaf]

"Yeah! Me and Heli, we're makin' hot cross buns, and I been fastin' and all, I'm ready to stop fastin', and we're gonna have communion out on the grass like last year."

"I have been fasting, too. What are hot cross buns?"

[fingersofleaf]

"They're kinda like little sweet rolls, and they got raisins in, and little icin' crosses on top for Jesus."

[border_princess]

"They sound good. I shall have to try some."

[fingersofleaf]

"'Course! We're gonna make lots. It's no use makin' just a few. And you're doin' eggs. For hidin'?" all blissful exuberance.

"For protection."

[fingersofleaf]

"How's that?"

[border_princess]

"The pysanky have power. They bring health, good fortune, and protection. Especially if you give them to someone."

"I didn't know that!"

[border_princess]

"Normally they are made during Holy Week, but I must start now to make enough to give."
