Early Friday evening, Armand kisses Chris on the cheek and nuzzles baby Etienne and promises to come right back. He's thought of something he wants to get from the flat in Paris and meaning to try the plothole--it works for Marius and Cosette--as an easy means of travel he doesn't want to worry Chris. He only plans to be gone a few hours.
. . .
The next morning...
Armand St. Just steps out of the plothole closet, carefully closing the door behind him. He's walking with his chin to his chest, deep in thought, with his hands in his jacket pockets. For a few moments, all he can see is his feet and the boards of the floor beneath them. Then, apparently having decided something he murmurs, "I must ask Percy," and looks up. And stops dead in his tracks.
He looks around the main room of the The Mansion with wide eyes, more surprised and confused than frightened. "Where am I?" he finally asks in French, again more to himself because he immediately shakes his head and repeats the question more loudly in English in the hopes that someone familiar will burst on the scene and explain to him what happened to Blakeney Manor. One hand presses to his lips as he ventures deeper into the room.
To anyone who just saw him yesterday or last week, he seems largely unchanged from the rings on his fingers to the frayed cuffs of his favorite blue coat (or the little knife hiding up his left sleeve). It's just his memory that has changed. He has no idea where he is.
((typist: This is the re-set I was talking about. It's just his memories of DF that are gone. See
here for more details or to ask me questions. Of course, ask him questions here. He may be confused but he's still friendly.))
