Well, much to my surprise, I have been promoted a full step in
rank, as opposed to a half of a step which is what I expected.
So now I have a first brown decided belt.
What that means is I am going to be testing for my black belt in August.
Now mind you it is a "provisional black belt", black with a white strip, but you are still classified
as a black belt in the dojo, and have all the rank and privilege. It may take another year if not
two to achieve full black belt, mostly because of the teaching hours that are required.
Good news right? Well, I seem to be having a hard time with it. I was
mentally prepared to test in November, and now I have to switch gears and
start right now with my techniques, getting my partners together ( black belt
testing includes multiple attackers) and finding the time to practice.
I am going to be gone for a week and a half at the end of July, right when I should
be practicing the hardest. So I will have to spend a great deal of time at the
dojo before and mostly after my trip.
The good news here is that they honored me with this rank increase. It is the first
full step I have taken since I got my red belt. (It is common practice that once
achieving the rank of red belt you progress in 1/2 step increments. ( Unless your Donn, then
you do a step at a time :-)) So it felt really good for them to have that confidence in me.
So I have lots of work to do and stuff to learn.
I would like to invite all my friends to my testing on Friday night, August 5 at 7:00p.
I could use all the moral support I can get.
Oh, and I would also like all of you to congratulate Donn on getting his brown belt. He started about 6 months after I
did, otherwise I am sure he would be testing for belt as well. He could do that easily now, if they would let him.
So make your calendars, cause I would love a crowd when I kick some butt.
