Once Upon a Fic Author Letter

Dear Once Upon a Fic Author,

Sorry this took so long to get up! Here are some notes on the requests I made, just to give you an idea of what I like or find interesting about them. No need at all to take anything as a suggestion; I'd rather you write what inspires you. And I think with fairy tales even more than with media fandoms, there are so many directions to take, each of them worth a visit.

Also, thank you so much for writing me fic! I can't wait to see what you make. <3

The Fairest Thing - Sappho
I took a liking to this poem because it's so romantic, and because I just really enjoy the idea of ancient women writing love poetry to each other. I'm really curious to read how you are inspired by the poem, how it speaks to you. If you're looking for a starting point, perhaps Anactoria has also been writing love poetry to Sappho? Or maybe Helen has a rebuttal to the way Sappho casts her story?

Gilgamesh
There's something about this story that sets it apart from the other world mythologies that I'm familiar with. The story is touching emotionally; I feel deeply for Gilgamesh, where Hercules or Odysseus, for instance, as interesting as they are, don't particularly move me. It's probably the care taken with the contrasting characterizations of Gilgamesh and Enkidu and the intimacy of their friendship (slash or gen, they belong together). The first time I read it, I was dumbfounded (in a good way) by the very end, where Gilgamesh finds solace in the walls of his city. There's a sort of compassionate maturity throughout the narrative. The history of the epic's transcription and study is something I also wouldn't mind seeing fic about. I also adore the women characters, who are varied and wise and powerful.

Bluebeard
I became fascinated by Bluebeard when I saw the opera version by the Met (thank you, Cinemark!). It was this surreal descent into horror and fear that left me talking about it to everyone I knew and reading up on the folktale and looking for different versions. I like how the wife always has a choice as to whether to satisfy her curiosity. Her willingness to do so always seems brave to me.

The Girl Who Became a Boy
This is such a weird and wonderful adventure. I'd be interested in a retelling or continuation that goes all in on the queer elements of the story.

Likes Character study, plot, humor, adventure, people interacting in interesting ways, established relationship, relationship negotiation, tropes, pwp, h/c, satisfying endings, metafic. Also, feel free to write poetry if you prefer!

Please no: For this exchange, just about anything goes!
