I'd really like some feedback from folks on my friend's list here, so please read and reply, por favor.
So, as many of you know, I've sort of fallen into MMA as my newest obsession. I also live in Macon, Georgia, which is the official home of Ken Shamrock, Most-Dangerous-Man-In-The-World, UFC Hall of Famer, original old school badass and all around poster boy for the sport. (We will not speak of his time as a punching bag for Tito Ortiz. That doesn't need to be addressed here.)
Anyway, on Friday there was an article in the newspaper about how Hizzoner, Mayor C. Jack Ellis (ugh) recently proclaimed an official "Macon Holiday" after a woman who has run a restaurant in town for something like 40 years. She hasn't done anything special, is no big name, she just happens to run this restaurant and got a day named after her.
So, here's what I'm thinking: I wonder what sort of petitioning, lobbying, etc. it would take to get Hizzoner to proclaim an official "Ken Shamrock Day" in Macon? Basically give him the key to the city, get him to come down, etc. Because I'm really interested in doing this.
Update: He's not in the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame either, so I'm considering placing a call in over there too. The Curator was a professor of mine in college so I'm wondering if I might be able to pull some strings with him.
