Trojan?

Lately, as I've been running, I've been listening to One Republic. There's a song in there that mentions the word "Trojan" and this has inexplicably got me thinking about condoms. Specifically, I've been wondering who came up with the brand name "Trojan". Don't you think that's an unfortunate name for a prophylactic? I mean think about it. Most ( Read more... )

Well, that just shows you how badly I need to brush up on my Greek mythology. Thank you for the correction. Maybe it's not such a bad name after all...

Don't worry! When you get to be my age, you keep shoving new stuff into your mind, and the old stuff just gets squeezed out to make room -- sometimes really basic stuff gets lost. It's quite distressing. And I'm not even joking -- I reach in for basic knowledge only to find it's gone.

Why are you livingbreathingeatingsleeping the Aeneid?

I have these moments where I am either about to think something or explain something and I realize the knowledge is gone. For example, I will start out saying, "a lot of people don't realize the difference between x and y..." and then just as I am about to explain it, I realize I have forgotten the difference. Sometimes it's a piece of knowledge I have had my whole life, that I come back to now and then, and poof, it's just gone. It could be something as basic as the difference between "except" and "accept".

This could be nature's way of preparing us for our ultimate demise. I mean, ultimately, by the time we are really old, maybe we won't know enought to even be upset by our imminent death. We'll just go smiling stupidly into that final dying of the light. Smiling stupidly would be a really good way to die.

I am trying to commit to memory the phrase, (as an answer to the question, "How do you want to die?"), "Smiling stupidly." I think that is perfect.
