Went to see Doom tonight courtesy of a free screening pass I got while I was at the Virgin Megastore last week picking up a few DVD's.Lots of people were there as well too.I wanted to take either Jennifer or Camille to check it out with me, but they were busy unfortunatly. Before the movie started, they were having a Doom trivia contest which I actually won a couple of prizes from answering a couple of questions (I won Doom 3: Resurrection Of Evil for the Xbox, a t-shirt, and a Doom logo coffee mug out of it).
***POSSIBLE SPOILERS***
The movie itself is nothing special. They changed the storyline a bit which includes no references to Hell, that the demons were created by humans, they did not come to Mars through a interdimentional gateway, and there were only 3 monsters in the whole movie not including zombies(imps, hell knights, and ONE pinky). The acting was alright, the first person sequence near the end was cool, and the ending sucked ass.
A few positive parts of the movie was when The Rock's character got to use the BFG (he called it a "big fucking gun" ^_^), the violence and gore was plentiful, and the monsters looke pretty decent.
I'll admit it, I actually kinda liked the movie overall (even with the changes made to the movie that were different from the game). People that don't know about the game or who might have never played the movie will more than likely love it.But, the video game community will definatly have more of a mixed reaction to it (especially the hardcore Doom fans). It is worth at least a view if you are curious about it and are a fan.
In other words, fans of the game that want to see this film, proceed with caution...
Jen just called me.She wants to see it this Friday.Looks like I will be paying for it.Oh well, she has never played the game at all so she might get a kick out of it.
I wonder what her thoughts will be on it...
