Had 4 interviews this past week. 1 was at district in Beaver county, 2 was in Washington county (and a place where I applied last year with disasterous results) 3 was in Butler and a long term high school job and 4 was second round interview/demonstration lesson for Washington county.
On friday, Beaver county called and said thanks, but no thanks, we don't want you. this of course sucked, but honestly I was glad they called. Most schools do not, leaving you to go slowly crazy, doing stupid things like checking to make sure the phone works. Also on Friday, Butler called and asked me to call them back, when I did, person who called was gone. Since this job is for A.) high school and B.) only a long term sub, which means C.) there are no benefits and they pay 95 bucks a day for the first 45 days, which sucks a lot; I am not so interested. Of course, uninteresting job is far better than no job... I hate august. Waiting for Washington county school to call and hopefully invited me to final ound f interviews, the dreaded school board round. School Boards tend to be made up of people who are either overly concerned about taxes or have some other extreme personal agenda. It's a thankless job, you don't get paid, it requires a lot of time and listening to people argue. Hence, most people do not want to be on a school board. And for better or worse, most school board members don't know so much about education, other than their own time in school/kids experiences. And they are also very concerned about money, primarily not spending it for the most part. (Unless it;s for the football team! those boys just have to have an artificial turf field!) So yes, I remain in a state of suspended career animation.
In slightly better news, I hve been reading books about "mindfulness" and following said approach to better dealing with depression/anxiety. Mindful thinking mostly seems to be about fully thinking & experiencing the moment, paying attention to yourself more or less. I feel a little better, so that's a good thing. In actual news, Ollie has registered for his fall courses at Point Park and is excited about returning to school. We need to work out what bus route he should take to get to school, since owning 2 cars is not going to happen any time soon. He was also accepted to their "honors program" because he is so smart and cute. And today the Federal government sent us our "Notice of Action" meaning that yes, they have recieved his application for citizenship and cashed our check and sometime in the next 365 days he should be scheduled for an interview. I'm a little doubtful the interview will happen within the year, given how slowly the immigration wheels seem to be turning...
Going to visit parentals tommorrow. Ollie has discovered a way to download german TV & watch it on the computer, so we like using their speedy internet, which downloads even faster than the library. I have been trying to help mom go through the endless boxes of crap that filled my little sister's former room. My bedroom has now transformed into some sort of guest room, but also has a lot of crap to be dealt with. I'm slightly horrified by how much of my crap is still there. There's lots of boxes full of elementary school math tests, handwriting practice (a lot of "C"s there..) and other nonsense. I fear parentals will make me take it away to our already too cluttered appartment. I remind them that they left tons of crap in grandmas house even after she moved out and uncle ralph moved in. Sadly, it does not seem to be working. I am purging a lot, but I have dificulty getting rid of everything...
