appreciate me!

It was just Teacher Appreciation week. Overall it was very nice, although most of the appreciating was in the form of food, which was good at first, but eventually grew worrisome. Since I always pack my lunch, I typically eat a baloney sandwich, an apple and a 100 calorie cookie pack and some for of diet coke (preferably cherry, yes it was a long hard battle, and I still like real coke better, but I don't mind the diet so much now.) So the large lavish lunches the PTAs put out tended to make me want to curl up for a nap in the afternoon, which of course was impossible.

The closer we get to summer, the more attitude the kids have. They always whine about doing tstuff in library, because evidentally in their minds, it is some sort of recess. but lately they are whinging even more. This week, the children's librarian from the public library is comming to tell them all about summer reading, so I mostly just have to hang out and give the kids mean teacher looks when they aren't listening. After this week, there are only 3 weeks left and they are only partial weeks at that. After months with out a day off, we are suddenly facing a bunch of them.

In other news, contemplating going to visit julia in DC, but A.) am freaked out by daily 5 cent incrfeases in gas prices. and B.) also freaked out by need to apply for jobs and get jobs and fear of missing interviews. Schools have a nasty habit of calling on say tuesday and asking if you can come for a wednesday morning interview. They do not care if your answers is no. there are other desperate interviewees who can be there. So even though I am really tired of having not gone on ny kind of vacation in a loooong time (does college reunion count? hmmm, but it was just a weekend.) I am also scared to leave the appartment. Near the end of the summer, I become like a total desperate clingly girlfriend, waiting for calls, afraid to pick up in the phone because they might be calling right now! sigh. Have to go and have my fingerprints done again. Last year they made new law reaquiring FBI fingerprint check for all new teacher applicants. So I fill out 3 clearances, one for childline abuse registry, one from state police and one from FBI, which is a grand total of 60 bucks and eventually can prove I am not a crazed evil weirdo.

I recently tried to order origami paper from amazon so I can teach the fifth graders how to makepaper cranes after reading them saddest book ever, Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes. Curiously, fine art people seem to be ignoring my order. I was hoping to avoid having to go to multiple craft stores to get at least 200 pieces of the big size origami paper (like 8 by 8, easier for first time kids methinks) but I fear I may have to break down and do just that. Bleah.
