so i don't read much, but my friend george gave me a book a couple
years ago which i found while reorganizing my room and read about half
while i was camping with russell. it's titled uh... "on the road" by
jack kerouac.
in the book, he hitchhikes from new york to denver. initially, he
wanted to take a straight route to his destination, but he really
didn't have a choice on where the people who picked him up dropped him
off. the fella seems unusually positive about the whole situation given
that he only has $50 (granted this is in the 50s) in his pocket.
must be his apple pie and ice cream diet that became the theme meal for
his trip.
now, i'm in a similar situation... with no job or school to hold me
back. i feel it would be good if i get outta my normal routines and
travel. not just travel... i'm thinking more in the lines of
relocating. yes, i did just start school up again and yes i do
not have many credits under my belt... but i am in no rush.
while others are taking i-5... i would rather take pac highway.
it's always odd for me to think about all my fellow class mates who are
married, have jobs... heck, it's still funny when i see my friends
drink.
all i know is that i have a little money to support myself. most
likely enough to last me the summer. if i could just have the
guts to kick myself outta the house with no particular destination and
nothing planned.
no one will miss me that much, i mean it's not like back in the day
where the only way to communicate with people far away was by
letter. my friend
badmojoe
is a good example of this. he's been gone for a while in the
military, but we all keep in touch through the web. he tells of
all the girls he's gotten and of all the knife tricks he's learned.
maybe i'll get a real hickey on my trip! instead of a bug bight
that looks a lot like a hickey from far away. boy, if i do,
i'll be sure to blog it.
