France v. Uruguay

Jun 11, 2010 13:45

I don't have much to say about this game. It was pretty boring, and I spaced out on many occasions during the match. Though I had expected it though since I bet with my family that they would draw. Group A is completed and each team gets one point, which means this group is still wide open.

I have to credit the Uruguay defense for holding up against France even when they were down to 10 players, but the tackle on Sagna was absolutely red-card deserving... luckily he was fine. The only player that impressed me in this game was Diego Forlan, He was always a threat when Uruguay had chances. I especially like that he is always involved in the midfield and not isolated upfront. Gourcuff was disappointing most of the match except that one freekick that was blocked by the keeper. Govou's miss was unbelievable, but since I was slightly rooting more for Uruguay, it was fine with me that he missed it.

Anyway, the highlight of the game came after the match ended. ESPN was showing the highlight of Henry begging for handball at the 88th minute and the commentator said: "that's not a handball, you know what handball is Thierry..." Good job commentator, I laughed hard.
