Dad had a heart attack today. Well, I suppose it's yesterday now.
It must've been hard on mom, because this is about the same time of year that Ojiichan died.
Idk.
When mom described the chaos of the situation that led to dad being in the hospital...it was kind of funny. I think because it poked at a lot of people's dignity.
It was also bitterly amusing to me that I had Our Lady Peace's song "4am" stuck in my head during this.
Mom's an RN so she caught Dad's symptoms pretty quick and got him in the hospital pretty fast. There's minimal damage to his heart.
I also saw Tuan in the hospital. Apparently his dad's in the hospital too. Except he seems to be in worse shape.
I made the joke to mom that we just affirmed the stereo type that all Asians know each other. And she laughed. I seem to be able to get her to laugh pretty easily.
I don't really know how to feel.
Mom took this "opportunity" to give me oranges and life advice.
Dad took this "opportunity" to also give me life advice. He didn't give me oranges though. We did talk about ipads.
We made some jokes too. I guess considering the people involved it was inevitable. Though, maybe everybody jokes in that situation. I can't imagine being all dour about it.
I made a list of tv shows I wanted to download and watch during the more boring times. I knew it was going to be a lot of waiting. So I brought a 3ds with me. I shouldn't have bothered. It's been so long since I played that I didn't know where I was in the game anymore. So I stopped that pretty fast.
I had a sudden, inexplicable urge to watch Mean Girls. So I shared that with everybody in the room, because why not. A surprising amount of people found it funny. It went over my parents' heads though. I'm just glad the nurses laughed.
Mom kept on babying Dad. And I think he both appreciated it and found it annoying. Not so much that he found mom annoying, but that he disliked the lack of independence of movement or something.
Asymptomatic heart disease is a family thing. Every single one of my relatives -- I mean, all the ones I share a family name and blood relation with -- have it. And they have either died young(ish) or have had several heart surgeries and then died. :/
So it's both surprising and unsurprising that my dad had one. Idk.
