My fingers are screaming to write...

Several semester's ago, my very egotiscal and very intelligent professor explained that the most important thing you can do for your future children is to tell them stories--stores of your history, stories of your parents' history, stories of your grandparents' history, and so on. At the time, I knew he was right, but I don't think I entirely ( Read more... )

I think I get what you are saying. God has givien us a mind and soul along with that that a position in this life, one of importance. In order to fully use these gifts we are to take up the knowlege that He has laid at our feet. We are accountable to take full advantage of all that is offered to us through His grace, mercy and love for us. However what we chose to do with this knowledge is of upmost importance. We can chose to use the given knowledge for a greater good, to uplift and enhance the lives of others... especially using the knowledge for the gift of the family God has blessed us with. Or we can use the very same knowledge in a self-serving, limited, short sighted way. Just like any gift that has ever been bestow on us, it can be used for good or evil, but the choice is always up to us. Think what the world would be like if history did not exsist. If stories were not handed down from generation to generation. What a empty place it is when someone looses their memory and history begans to leave them. Look at how it ( ... )

Yes, yes, you definitely get it--and you've expressed what I couldn't figure out how to say. I think it's ironic that Eve sought knowledge to begin with--choosing to eat from the tree of knowledge. And it's exactly that that society has tried to prevent women from acquiring--at least based on what I can see throughout history. I don't quite think its quite as true today, but I think that it's still a hidden in our culture, a subversive, implicit idea...Maybe.

Perhaps because of my future profession or because I simply love learning, I see my future role as a mother as including that of being a teacher--and I know you can COMPLETELY understand and relate to that. And I know that in order to be an amazing teacher, I have to have an enormous storehouse of knowledge to pass along, both for the sake of teaching my kids how to understand the world they live in and the world to come...

So much more to think about and write about--thanks for you insight.

the insight you thank me for was learned at the feet of the Almighty. A process I am happy to say is forever developing. The gift of teaching is by its very nature rewarding if you are seeking the correct motive in which you are imparting knowledge. Teaching for the sake of winning someone over to your side of thinking is fatal, both for you and the person you are inflicting. However teaching someone with the intention of bringing forth the truths that have been brought forth by God (not by us) is an assurance that seeds are planted, cultivation will be next and God's plan will then be in motion. Who would want the responsibility of forming someone elses mind, soul and spirit without the guidence of the one who created us? If we choose to form the minds of others than we are taking God's place ( ... )
