We have a culture of shortchanging customers that extends to the smallest things. Indian Railways provides paper cups for chai, with the correct level (150ml) clearly marked. I am Sweden for a few weeks; when I went around a jumble sale yesterday, I had no cash whatsover, and even if I had some, I knew I would only be accumulating junk that would be of no use to me or the person I am staying with. This allowed me to go around the sale area without buying anything.

See the Solar Flower!

We stopped on the way to Bandipur to buy flowers for the Forest Officers, and I got these photographs. I think the there is a real contrast between the hard-headed business sense that's required to survive in a small business, and the light touch required to handle flowers to make garlands and bouquets out of them....
