I went to the health center this semester because of middle insomnia and excessive daytime fatigue (falling asleep in like, 3 classes every day despite sleeping 8 hours). They said my blood calcium was high, so I went to an endocrinologist and got my PTH measured, and it was actually low. Which means it isn't hyperparathyroidism, what they originally thought it was.
Anyways I know Depo and bone loss are highly correlated, but I was wondering if there was any research as to why? Could it be that some of the side effects are actually related? The idea with the high blood calcium was basically that the calcium I was getting wasn't going to my bones and to cell respiration, but to my blood. I'm wondering if Depo could actually cause something like this, and if maybe the calcium supplements I'm taking aren't doing anything because of this. I get a bone density scan on Thursday. I have been on Depo for about a year and four months.
In the event that I have to stop, what do I do? I was so irregular I can't handle having my period. It was so long and painful, and it happened every two weeks. Depo was like magic, just kind of took everything away so I didn't have to deal with it anymore, AND I lost the 15 pounds I put on while on the pill. What are some alternatives with no estrogen, since I think my body flips out when you give it estrogen?
