Chapter 7 :
Sleeping Beauty
It was quite fortunate that the three panicked men were still able to think rationally enough (with the exception of Jin, of course) to bring Ueda back to the hospital (with Jin's strength). Ueda was brought into one of the hospital V.I.P rooms and Kaminari - sensei came to the room immediately, accompanied by some other doctors and nurses. One of the nurses closed the door of the room and asked them to wait patiently, but when she saw Ryo, who she recognized as a patient, she forced him to return to his own room. Ryo tried to protest, insisting that he should stay, but after some discussions and a promise that they’d be kept informed about Ueda’s condition, Ryo finally gave in and returned to his own room along with both Jin and Pi.
What was waiting when they reached Ryo's room was the sight of Uchi sitting in a chair right beside the bed. Uchi noticed them as he tilted his head a bit to look at them but showing no response. Ryo did not say anything, instead he when directly to his bed. Pi, who had no idea of what to do, followed Ryo, while Jin, who was oblivious, looked at Uchi, then Ryo and then straight into Pi's eyes, silently asking for an explanation. Pi shook his head slowly, gesturing that it was not the appropriate time to discuss it. Jin, who fortunately being not as baka as usual, nodded slowly and followed Pi, helped Ryo to get into his bed, and stood beside it.
It was difficult for Ryo to jump into his own bed, as he was not back to his full strength yet, so sighs of relieved were heard as he finally managed to do so, one of which came from Uchi's mouth. As Uchi saw that Ryo was perfectly okay, he stood up from the chair and walked away. He almost opened the door when he seemingly heard Ryo's voice calling his name. Uchi was unsure of it but he stopped and turned to face Ryo.
"Hiroki.." Ryo said, and this time Uchi was one hundred percent sure that Ryo called his name. Uchi was frozen to the spot and he didn’t know what to do! Especially when he accidentally met Pi's hateful gaze, which was actually just a normal gaze but Uchi was so afraid that he mistook that.
"Why did you want to leave? Sit here again, Hiroki." Ryo said again, demanding for Uchi not to leave. Uchi nodded a bit then returned to sit again.
There was a long silence between the four of them which scared Uchi even more. He was getting impatient yet he knew that he couldn’t leave. Secretly he stole glances at Ryo or Pi then looked down to the floor again. Jin, who was becoming more confused than ever, could only observe the other three guys without knowing what the hell had happened between them.
"Why did you do that, Hiroki?" Ryo finally asked, breaking the silence between the four of them which resulted in a shocked Uchi and Pi but a relieved Jin, who hoped that he’d finally be able to understand what the hell had been going on!
"D-Did what?" Uchi muttered even though he already knew what Ryo meant with his question.
Ryo gave no reply and simply stared at Uchi instead. Uchi was getting nervous because of that penetrating gaze and so he looked at the floor once more. It was like that for quite some time which increased the feelings of awkwardness between them.
"A-Ah, I-I understand. D-Don't you remember anything about it Ryo?" Uchi asked, finally giving in. "Well, it was your hime's fault, don't you remember that?"
Ryo gave no answer so Uchi continued: "Well, how long has it been? I can’t remember myself. Months ago, I guess. Well, I guess I called you that night since fear came upon me again." Uchi stopped for a while, looking at both Jin and Pi unsure. "You're the only one who knows about my secret Ryo - chan, but I guess I have to tell it here or I won't be able to explain things properly. I-I have a major fear of blood. And stormy night makes it even worse. That was how it happened that night. I accidentally cut my hand while attempting to cook t-then it happened to be such a rainy night. I was frozen when I saw blood coming from my hand, and there was so much of it! It was so scary and I knew that it could be life threatening if I didn’t do something about it, since the cut was quite wide b-but I couldn't. I was just too afraid. That was when I took my phone and dialed your number. And you came, as usual, looking worried about me. You treated my wound, well not completely because you got a message and then you hastily ran from my house after telling me to wrap the bandage properly. But I was so worried since your face looked a bit different that I followed you outside. I-it was so scary Ryo.. Y-You didn't look around then..then a car hit you and.." Uchi stopped again, trying to collect all of his courage.
"I lost my consciousness too since I’d lost quite an amount of blood but I woke up 2 days later at this hospital. It seemed like someone had brought us and contacted my parents and yours." Uchi took a deep breath. "Then I found you in your coma condition. I'd tried to call Ueda at that time, but I think Pi received the call? I'm not sure about that. Then, I accidentally opened your phone and remembered that you started to act differently because of the mail. Curiously, I opened you phone and what I read angered me." Uchi stopped again. "The mail came from Ueda. What am I to you, Ryo? Just that simple message yet it made you panic and you got into that accident. Yet when I called his phone, they told me that he was acting differently. I couldn't forgive him, Ryo. He's not the only one who suffered yet he acted as if he was the victim and you're the one who's at fault."
"I didn't want him to see you that easily, especially after how he treated you. But then I remembered one thing, I couldn't hide it that easily, especially to Johnny - san. It was quite a wonder that Johnny - san hadn't announced anything even though he had been informed about the accident. So I went to meet him at his office. It was quite hard to convince him, or actually I’m still not sure that he is convinced yet but he agreed with me, I guess... Giving you a rest until you can return back to work."
Uchi took a real deep breath after he had explained everything and stared at Ryo. "I won't say sorry or whatever. I guess that's all I can explain. But I still wish for your happiness, Ryo…" Uchi finally managed to smile before he stood up again, leaving Ryo's room.
The room was filled with silence again as none of the three remaining men knew what to say or do. Jin and Pi were stealing glances at each other but none of them dared to look at Ryo. The silence was broken when they heard the sound of Ryo's room door open. The nurse, who had promised to them earlier, came in and faced them. "His condition is still unstable so he might need to stay in the hospital for a while but he'll be ok soon." the nurse explained which resulted in relieved sighs from the three men. "That was for his physical condition. But unfortunately, it will be quite hard for his psychological. He was too shocked and was suffering from depression. The doctors have given him some appropriate medicine but it would be better if try to distance him from what caused the depression, at least for a while."
The three men watched the nurse leave the room after giving small bows to her. "Then I guess, I shouldn't meet him for a while, huh?" Ryo said finally.
"B-But Ryo.."
"It's ok Pi. I'll stay in Osaka for a while I guess. Sorry about that."

It had been a month since the incident and Ryo kept his promise, staying in Osaka without meeting Ueda at all. Ueda was released from the hospital without mentioning Ryo at all. Nobody knew whether Ueda knew something about Ryo but they didn't dare to ask him since they were afraid that it would affect Ueda again.
Of course it was unavoidable for Ryo, he had to return to Tokyo sooner or later and it seemed like the time had come. Ryo walked nervously when he arrived at the Jimusho's building and observed his surrounding carefully, afraid that Ueda would catch sight of him. He sighed with relief as he finally reached NEWS dressing room without meeting Ueda at all. Ryo put his bag on the nearest table when he heard his phone rang.
"Ah, Hiroki? I'm at NEWS' dressing room now. Ok." Ryo ended the call and sighed. He turned back a bit and observed the room for a while; it had been so long since he’d last been there. He thought it a bit strange that none of the NEWS' members were there but there were still fifteen minutes left before their meeting started, so they might still be around, doing their own business.
"Ryo.." Ryo suddenly heard a low voice from behind, a familiar one. He turned around slowly and blinked when he saw the other standing in front of him.
"H-Hime?" he rubbed his eyes, unsure of whom he had seen. When he realized that it really was Ueda, he panicked and tried to leave the room immediately.
"Yes it is me. Uchi told me that you were here..." Ueda replied while staring at Ryo. No words were exchanged between the two of them for a while as both just stood staring to each other. "You know what, I'm sorry..."
Ryo gave no reply at all, he stared at Ueda instead. After a few minutes of silence Ryo took a deep breath and stared a Ueda again. "Well, it's over right, between us?" he said which made Ueda feel disappointed. "But let's start from the beginning again?" Ryo smiled.
Ueda blinked a few times and smiled as he heard Ryo's question. "Well yes, let's start again, together..."
