For The Love Of Reading

I've been rereading one of my favorite book series again. I just can't help myself. I'm so worried that I'll pick up a book and hate it. These days, I don't even know where the local library is. If I'm picking up a book, I might as well buy it, right? ::sigh:: But that means I'm picky, and worry that one day I'll do my usual (choose a book because it has a nifty cover and the 'about the book' sounds cool), and find out I can't stand the thing. I actually think I did that way back in the day with the Shanara series. I can't get through those... so they just sit. What's the point of buying if you can't get past the first chapter?

I'm thinking of signing up over on LoveReading. Maybe something like that can help get me out of my book rut, you know? They have something they call an Author Like-For-Like, which apparently takes into account what you are currently reading and recommends another book for you to read that will fit your tastes. (It isn't computer driven, either, so there's a personal aspect there and lots less room for error.) I always like discovering knew authors, so that's something I can certainly enjoy.

They have the usual book reviews, by a book expert named Sarah Broadhurst. What really surprised me, though, is that they offer free pdf downloads of the first chapter of any book listed on their site. If they recommend you go read something, you can download the pdf and actually get an idea of whether or not picking up the book would be worth your time.

That's something I need desperately. If I'm not hooked by the first chapter, I'm usually not hooked. That's all there is to it. With this, I'll be able to know right away whether or not I would enjoy the book! It sounds like a lifesaver.

They also offer 25% discounts on their books, and give you the ability to compare prices with other distributers so that you can always purchase at the lowest price (between those distributers). You don't even have to leave the house to get the book sent to you! Hey, I'm all for saving a few bucks, and going to the book store is dangerous. (Joel and I always walk out with more books than we'll ever need or read. This way, the cookbooks won't tempt me!)

And the great thing is that all of these services are totally free! What've I got to lose? ::sold herself, and runs to sign up::
