Okay, so I was reminded that tomorrow is my grandmother's birthday. She's going in to surgery on Friday. (Remember how they did surgery on her lower spine? It didn't take well, so they're redoing it.) Obviously, I'm more than a little worried. And I wanted to do more this year than just say "happy birthday". But you guys already know how my finances sit, so I couldn't do much. I opted for just a card, because she's very hard to shop for, and I just want to show her how much I love her. But I was poking around online at things I would get her if I had as much money as I wanted...
See, Gran doesn't need much. Whenever I ask her what she wants, it's usually a new pair of slippers, or for me to spend the money on myself instead. If she wants anything, she doesn't tell anyone. She has desires--I know she does. She just doesn't like relying on anyone, and thinks that even something like a gift is something she would rather not have to rely on. So she doesn't ask for things, and when people ask her, she usually skirts the question. Maybe that's why it was so hard for me to accept the money from friends for the convention.
The one thing I can always get for Gran that she'd like is something for the house. She improves, and she likes to make it look as nice as possible.
She also adores taking pictures, and technological things, even if she doesn't understand them.
So why not get her something that is all of the above?
digital photo frames would be amazing for her house. She could either hang a larger 10" digital frame on the wall, or put a smaller 7" frame on a desk or table somewhere. She could take pictures, transfer them into the frame, and even use the remote control to change the pictures or select/program a particular slide show!
The digital picture frames are simple, stylish, and it sounds like they're easy to operate. And if her camera's memory card doesn't work with the frame, they seem to have USB ports so that she can hook it straight to her computer. Easy as pie! (Okay, so I would have to teach her how to use it because she's technologically challenged, but still!)
Oh wow, the frames even have built in speakers, so they can play back whatever music you load onto it. So the slideshow can have some background music to make it even more appealing! I think I would put in some nature sounds, to help put a calming atmosphere in her house. Boy does she need it. I'm only as high stressed an individual as I am because I was raised that way, after all.
Honestly, though, I couldn't afford these digital frames right now. The cheapest appears to be in the $100 range, and while amazing, I just don't have the spare cash. Granny will just have to live with her shiny (I got one with glitter on it) birthday card. Too bad it will get there late, well after her surgery, no doubt... >.> Bad me for sending it so close to her birthday.
