You knew it was coming. I finished the book, and I want to discuss it with all of you. I want to see what you think. I want us to rant and rave about the things we hated, and I want us to sing the praises of those things we enjoyed ( Read more... )

Figured she'd admit to something like that. That's such a cheese way to go about things, and I really don't approve. "WE NEED ANOTHER ORPHAN!" No. Really. You don't. It just shows that you don't know how to write heartwrenching without having an orphan, which is sad. You're too orphan-centric. What, WERE you an orphan or something, Rowling?

Even guessing about the fanfic stuff, the deaths don't sit well with me. That's part of why I'm so upset. She needs IN BOOK reasons, and she needs closure, and she gives neither. Tonks and Remus are worse than Fred, in my opinion, because there's so much less given.

I'm only used to male kids being named for grandparents, great grandparents, or whatever. I'm not used to female names being passed down. Hell, I only know my Grandmother as having a female name passed down, and that was basically her aunt who died at a very young age. To me, that isn't as wierd.

Yea, I mentioned about George's kid being named Fred. I thought that was touching.

Eh, Albus Severus doesn't sound bad to me until you add Potter at the end. ::laughs:: But honestly, it's not that bad. They're in the wizarding world, after all. There are tons of wierd names there. I like the name. But yes, poor Scorpius...

Am I the only one that kind of wished that Rowling would have redeemed Malfoy just a smidgen more? I mean, hell. They still have the whole "zomg I hate you!" thing going on, which is ridiculous. Harry & Co. saved him on numerous occassions, and it was clear that the Malfoys were having second thoughts in that last book, especially Malfoy. So while not being bestest best friends, why couldn't they be on fairly civil terms?

My thoughts, again? Rowling didn't want Harry/Draco slash fic. >.<

The epilogue was unsatisfying. End of story. It was her tie in specifically so people wouldn't be able to take her characters and put them/pair them however they want, at least not as easily. It didn't give me anything other than "So and so is paired with so and so, and they have this many kids, and name them this. Oh, and Harry & Co. still hate the Malfoys. End of story." Does it fill a lot of holes? Howso? And Neville and Luna might still end up canon. Maybe it's coming in the encyclopedia. ;op

Nah, Jo said that she figured Luna ended up with the son of the guy who wrote Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them. The name escapes me at the moment. With the epilogue, I was wanting to know who ended up with who (so I can continue crowing over my H/Hr friends), but I also wanted jobs and stuff like that. Bah.

I actually hated the characterization of Draco in this book. She turned him into Peter Pettigrew in my opinion, cowering behind the stronger party(in the end, he's begging one of the DE's not to hurt him, he's on their side). Earlier in the book he refuses to positively identify Harry or the others, yet later in the Room of Requirement he tries to take Harry down. She ruined Draco in this book in my opinion.

I kind of agree. It seemed like she didn't know what to do with him. He was so well loved by so many, that she wanted to make sure they couldn't turn him into major evil or naughty boy just lusting for Harry or anything else you usually see. It's almost like she was trying to ruin him. I don't know. I just know I didn't like it.

Same. The epilogue and what she did to Draco were the majorly disappointing parts of the book. I kinda think George losing an ear was a hint to him losing Fred, too. But at least Fred died laughing and fighting. I'm sure that's how he would have wanted to go.

Yes, I really do love that, since she chose to kill of Fred, at least he died fighting and laughing. It was so touching, especially since it was Percy turned no-longer-asshole that made him laugh. That made me warm and ice cold all at the same time...

It seems that general consensus is that she royally screwed over both Draco and Ginny in the last book...
