i'm kind of shocked that anyone would give money to someone who comes to their door asking for money in exchange for something OTHER than the promise of girl scout cookies within a month.

even if it's a legit cause. it's someone at your DOOR. that's annoying. and usually a method used by those magazine people and religious crackasses. which undermines your credibility. also, people who have any kind of substantial money to donate to causes like this usually plan in advance how much money they are going to give for the year, and what percentage is going to which cause, and then their assiastants mail out checks. i know because i've worked for them.

in 2004, grassroots voter outreach raised about 25 million dollars nationwide...the berkeley office raised in the millions... the quota per night for each staffmember is about 120 dollars, but there are people who raise way more each night. i raised 120 my first night and 146 my second....
