"Do you think, because I am poor, obscure, plain, and little, I am soulless and heartless?"

Ahh, Jane Eyre. I've been waiting impatiently to watch this new version ever since I heard about it. I can't understand, given that it's by BBC Films, why it's been out in America for months but still hasn't been released here. But that's by the by, piracy being what it is and all.

In a way, I'm glad I didn't see it months ago, because I probably wouldn't have been as into Michael Fassbender as Rochester as I am right now in the wake of X-Men. That said, I love Mr Rochester in any shape or form, so it might not have made any difference at all.

I do wonder though, why it is that all recent adaptations of Jane Eyre seem to be filmed at Haddon Hall? The Ciaran Hinds/Samantha Morton one was, the Toby Stephens/Ruth Wilson one was, and now this one. There are plenty of stately homes in England, location people, why not branch out a little? I grant you, there are few counties in England more beautiful than Derbyshire - and yes, I am utterly biased, being a Derbyshire girl.

But it throws me, watching all these Jane Eyre's when I know the locations so well, when I've walked them and visited them and played there. They have these billowing shots at Stanage Edge and all I can think about is all the times I went rock-climbing there at school. They used Ilam Youth Hostel for Lowood School, and all I remember is my first kiss being there.
