Bye bye, Clara!

BBC News: Jenna Coleman 'leaving' Doctor Who
Can't say I'm sorry, if this turns out to be true. It's been rumoured for ages that she's leaving at some point - well, I suppose they've all got to leave eventually! But I've never warmed to Clara in the way I did with Rose or Martha or Amy or Donna ( Read more... )

I remember being severely disappointed when that was what they were doing with her character instead of what people were hoping for re: her introduction episode with her as the Dalek. I still believe that would've been a more interesting arc for her with the Doctor than anything else. I mean, I thought she was adorable in that episode.

I haven't watched Doctor Who in a while, but I agree with having companions be normal rather than special. Regular people doing extraordinary things and discovering something about themselves that way is better storytelling for the audience to connect with. I often feel like, because the show is supposedly a kid's program, they should have a child be the companion for a while. Have something children would say, "hey, I could be on with adventures with the Doctor, too!" You know? Also switch things up, have there be a male companion.

It would be fun to have a child as a companion, but I don't think they ever will. I think the media attention and hype would be way way too much for any child actor, even the most well-adjusted. And let's face it, in this modern day and age, there would be bound to be people who would question an adult and a child running around together, even if that adult is the Doctor!

But I'd like a male companion. And a male companion who isn't just a Plus One for the primary female companion, like Rory was.

I think also it would be tough to make work because of the child labour laws, don't they film for up to 12 hours a day for DW? You could make the filming schedule work for the occasional episode, but not for an entire series I don't think

Yeah, child labour laws are pretty strict, and rightly so. I would imagine it would be do-able but they'd have to stretch out the entire filming schedule to accommodate shorter days or be much more rigid and compressed with that child's scenes versus everything else, and I think to be honest it would be too much hassle. And too expensive.

I like Clara much more in Season 8. I found Season 7 pretty boring overall and I am not a big fan of 11. So Clara got more interesting to me once the stories started getting more fun.

I didn't really like Amy; she just rubbed me the wrong way. (I loved Rory, on the other hand).

Donna is my favorite companion, no competition. She was amazing.

Donna WAS amazing. I was really skeptical about her at the start, because I was never a big fan of Catherine Tate as a comedian. But Donna just...oh, I loved her. Her ending just broke my heart. I'm still not over Donna. She deserved so much more.

I'm not going to be sorry, either, if that's true. I've never warmed to Clara either.

I like Clara more than you do, but I'm okay with her leaving as I figured it would happen after this series, she's been a companion for a pretty long time now and she was originally set to leave in the Xmas special
