Has anyone watched The Doctor Blake Mysteries? It's an Australian detective drama, very much in the vein of Lewis, Morse, Foyle's War etc, except Australian and the main character is a doctor, not a detective. It's set in the 50s in Ballarat, Victoria, and it stars Craig McLachlan (yeah, remember him?) as the eponymous character ( Read more... )

I remember the show vaguely - I remember liking it - but I can't remember a bloody thing about it. Other than it had gadgets and tech and Craig McLachlan.

I missed it - clashed with two other shows - but the ads were interesting enough that I'm watching out for repeats. It got good reviews, especially McLachlan.

I've watched the first two eps so far, and I'm really quite enjoying it! Craig McLachlan is good in it, more than I'd expected, and his character is quite appealing - although obviously he comes with the requisite manpain.

I've never seen it over here in the US, but in my area we now have this awesome channel totally devoted to what I think is BBC programming (in addition to BBCAmerica - WETA2 comes through our PBS stations, which is the only place we got any British TV except for "Benny Hill" when I was growing up). They have older shows ("Fresh Fields", "To the Manor Born", even "All Creatures Great and Small") and newer stuff (like "Primeval", "Doctor Who", and "MI-5") as well. I'll keep an eye out for this. It sounds really interesting. Thanks for the heads-up.
