Has anyone watched The Doctor Blake Mysteries? It's an Australian detective drama, very much in the vein of Lewis, Morse, Foyle's War etc, except Australian and the main character is a doctor, not a detective. It's set in the 50s in Ballarat, Victoria, and it stars Craig McLachlan (yeah, remember him?) as the eponymous character.
It came up as one of my recommendations on Amazon the other day and I'd never even heard of it. Apparently it was on BBC1 back in November, but I don't remember seeing it advertised or hearing anyone mention it. But seeing it on Amazon piqued my interest, being set and filmed in Ballarat. When I was in my teens I spent the better part of six months in school in Ballarat, and I have very fond memories of the place, so I always prick my ears up when I see or hear anything about it.
Anyone come across it? I don't know if it's aired anywhere in America at all - it might fly a little below the radar for that. I think it's partly funded from the UK, which is probably why it was on over here.
Gosh, Craig McLachlan. I remember seeing him playing Danny Zuko in Grease down in London when I was a kid, I think for my tenth birthday treat. Shane Ritchie was playing Kenickie and Sonia (whee, childhood flashback!) was playing Sandy. And ooh, anyone remember him in Bugs?
