Gold post boxes!
Aug 01, 2012 14:05
Royal Mail is to pay tribute to Britain’s Olympic and Paralympic gold medallists throughout the London 2012 Games by painting some of their iconic red post boxes gold.
Post boxes in the home towns of gold medal winners will be re-sprayed within days of a medal win - the first time since 1874 that Royal Mail has altered the colour of its mail boxes.
If a gold medal is won as part of a team, the blinged-up box will be located in a place relevant to all its members, and if a pair of athletes qualify for a gold medal together, Royal Mail will paint boxes in both their home towns.
I actually love this idea, I think it's a really nice tribute. Of course, the cynic in me says they're only doing this because we probably won't win that many gold medals!
I wonder whether there'll end up being one anywhere near me...
