Just a day, a Fine day
Ohno Satoshi
The adult way to spend time.
He is definitely very busy, but it appears that irritation and annoyance is never part of his mood. He gives off the sense of security to anyone who comes in contact with him, and holds an unwavering anchored axle within himself. This man who walks his own path without shouting it out loud, we will now show his photo story with flowers and fashion, together with a pet “to live a fruitful life”.
I wonder what “luxury” is to me?
I do have a switch which changes me when I wear performance outfits.
This tortoise, looks exactly like my grandfather!
I guess the balance between work and hobby is really important.
If I want some time which I can enjoy, I can just make it happen myself.
“A small luxury to me. Hm, what could it be?” Ohno Satoshi-san, is deep in his thoughts.
“I went to a really good sushi shop recommended by someone I know. The shop is really stylish, and they serve sushi in small and compact form which is the perfect amount for me. I ordered omakase (the chef decides the whole course), and was treated by the friend whom I went with. I suppose my recent luxury stops here… (laugh)”
His drama “Shinigami-kun” will start airing soon. Even so, the ever-busy Ohno-san stays true to looking out for enjoyable things in his everyday life.
“I love pouring hot water onto the umekonbu (plum with kelp) teabag and drinking it every morning when I wake up. The saltiness is just right. That, and dashi (soup stock). Using the magurobushi (dried tuna) which I received as a souvenir on a show, I tried making dashi for the first time in my life, and it was really good. I never knew about magurobushi before this, the taste was really mild and comforting. Katsuobushi (dried bonito) has quite a distinct taste, but maguro is more tender. I’ve used up everything, but the time when I was drinking the dashi was really enjoyable.”
Ohno Satoshi who loves dashi. He is a adult indeed. His hobbies fishing and painting are of course part of his luxuries as well.
“Last year, I bought a fishing rod which is made exclusively for mahi-mahi and I thought ‘man, this is luxurious’. It’s quite costly, but if I don’t buy it I won’t get to catch one so it can’t be helped. The wooden lure I bought is handcrafted by specialists so it’s quite expensive too. But, it’s really good for fishing. When I managed to get a fish with this lure I was so excited. Because it’s handcrafted, I suppose there’s something else to it? Like a craftsman’s spirit or something. For painting, last year I tried oil painting for the first time, but I really didn’t have a clue, so I asked Nara (Yoshitomo)-san to accompany me to shop for art materials. At the art supplies shop, Nara-san said “you would need that, you better buy this”, and kept adding things to my shopping basket, I ended up with 3 full baskets. The shopkeeper kept keying in each of the items at the cashier counter with a face that says “it’s the first time I’ve seen anything like this” (laugh). Though I was surprised, but I really did use all those things.”
“Painting and drawing is part of my life” “I can’t live without painting”. That is the much-needed quality time for Ohno-san.
“Trying oil painting for the first time, it’s really interesting! Once you add a layer of paint, you’d have to wait for about half a day or even a whole day for the paint to dry, and the waiting time is what makes it so great. It so happens that last year during the period when I was filming the drama, I’d paint for about 1 hour every morning when I wake up, go for filming, then go home after I’m done wondering ‘Has it dried yet? No?’, full of anticipation. I would take photos of my painting, look at them during my free time on set, and think of what I would do next. When I do the things I love, I would become lively, the more I’m busy with work the more I want to do what I really love. Time constraint isn’t really a problem for me now, I suppose it is possible as long as I am willing to make time for it. If it’s for the sake of doing what I love, even waking up very early is enjoyable.”
