Jennifer My Love by SATOSHI OHNO
Just when I reached the place we’ve promised to meet, my phone rang. “Hello? Jennifer? Yeah I’ve just reached”. As I looked across the crossroads, I saw her holding her cell phone in one hand while waving to me with the other.
Both Jennifer’s parents are Americans, but she’s a black girl born and bred in Japan, and speaks fluent Japanese and English. We got to know each other through a friend who studied in America, and were constantly in contact since then. We were always hanging out in groups at first, I’m afraid it wasn’t until I said that I dance when we really clicked. It was 3 months ago when it became just the two of us seeing each other.
Saturday afternoon, we both showed up nearly at the same time at the promised place - which is the crossroads near our homes. “Okay, let’s eat first,” we decided to go to a cafe nearby.
“I’ll have yakiniku and salad, how about you Satoshi?”
“Um, I’ll have coffee and sandwich.”
Jennifer has always been comfortable with herself, and is not pretentious at making herself look good. When she eats, she makes everything seem so delicious it makes me happy.
“Satoshi is your sandwich nice? Com’on let me have a bite!” Man, she really eats a lot, about 1.5 times more than me. She always makes me feel the simplicity in her character, I can just relax and be myself when I’m with her, this is really wonderful.
After eating, she said, “I heard there’s an interesting sundry shop around here, I’ve asked some of my friends, let’s go and have a look~”
Recently, compared to boutiques and accessory shops, it seems like more people are going to sundry shops and furniture shops. Coming out of the cafe, we hopped on my bicycle with her riding at the back, and off I peddle to the sundry shop. Every breath we let out created white mists~
To her, rather than checking out fashionable clothes, she is more interested in looking out for cute and interesting exhibits. On our way there, we found a furniture shop, and just went inside without people noticing.
“Oh, it’s a waterbed!! I’ve always wanted one. It’s okay if I just lie down for a bit, right? Oo~h, this is so comfortable ♥ Jennifer, come and try this too. I don’t even want to move anymore. Ha~” I yawned.
…Who’s calling out to me from afar?
“Mr. Customer! Ms. Customer?” Opening my eyes, a very troubled staff was standing before us, “um, because this is a display item, so…”
“S… sorry…” with the staff glaring at us like that, we just took off on my bicycle to run away as fast as possible. After a short journey of escape, we simply looked at each other and laughed.
“Hahaha… we did something stupid again…?”
Listening to her hearty laugh, I looked at the sunset as I thought, I want her to continue laughing like this down this road of life.
