Uni & Korean Dramas

I'm SO ready to be over with this term. I'm almost done with my paper, I only have like 3 more pages to write and it's killing me. I already quotes many sources and used all my ideas and I hate feeling like I'm just filling 3 pages with bull. Whatever. This course has been way harder than it should have been because they don't know how to clearly state directions in the rubric. You know I got my last outline sent back to me 3 times because I was missing something in it - that wasn't even stated that I needed to include it!! I had some choice words with a course director over it. To put it nicely, I told them that as an institution that I'm trusting - not to mention paying- to further my education they can at least take the time to make sure that all the lesson plans and scoring rubrics are fully developed instead of leaving information out and wasting my time. *huff*

I'll be so glad when I'm done with it. It makes me really not care if three pages are full of bull.

After reading and staring at the screen for hours yesterday - and giving myself a terrible headache because of it- I decided to chill out and catch up on the Korean drama called The Thorn Birds.

For those of you that don't know, I LOVE k-dramas. I set my DVR to record them on KBS at least 4 times a week (and Music Bank, and Yu Huyieol's Sketchbook, and Win Win, and other variety shows. I'm such a nerd).

Anyway, The Thorn Birds has been really intriguing.

The synopsis says: Seo Jeongun is a strong and courageous woman who has suffered a difficult life, having grown up in an orphanage, but continues to embrace people around her despite longing for affection herself. Jeongun harbours the hope that she will meet her mother if she becomes a star, striving to reach her goal and overcome her suffering with her pure and innocent nature. In contrast, Han Yugyeong has a birth secret for which she is willing to throw away everything in order to get revenge. The “thorn birds” of the title refers to Jeongun’s character, who only brings out her best at the cost of great pain. A thorn bird is a mythical bird who searches for a thorn tree from the day it is born. When it finds it, the bird impales itself upon the sharpest thorn, and rises above the agony to sing the most beautiful song ever heard.

It's a complex weaving of relationships - as it is in many Korean dramas - of who knows whom, who is related to whom, and who has done what and for what reasons. Jeongun really is sweet and she doesn't deserve the way she's treated by Yugyeong - and yet she always goes back to her if she's in need of someone. Of course this has changed dramatically over the course of the series. Now on episode 17, I am really shocked at how things have played out.

Back on episode 15 ... as much of a wretch as Yugyeong is and as much as she deserved everything she got ... I couldn't help but still feel sorry for her and cry along with her. It was dramatic and heartbreaking.

If you like Korean dramas, I recommend this 20 episode series based on what I've watched so far. I've giggled, cried, cursed, and have had some girly moments where I've been "She told you! Face!"

But now that I'm caught up, I have no distractions from Uni. I need to get on the ball and finish my paper.

BTW, I have loved everyone's entries for the KakaSaku Family Portrait Contest! They've been so amazing!! It's going to be hard to vote for one.
