Clearly, it was Annie Savoy, and not Plato, who had it right

It's axiomatic that all politicians lie. Some of them apparently spend as much time lying to themselves as they do lying to their constituents. President Bush, speaking in France, seems to think that many of his foreign policy statements were misinterpreted and that he was really a multilateralist.

In fact, he said, "And I hope it serves as a go-by for future Presidents, that you can have disagreements, but you don't have to have this kind of zero-sum attitude about life." Okay, so the man who brought us, "Either you're with us or with the terrorists," is urging future Presidents to follow his template and not be all black-and-white about everything.

I applaud the sentiment, but I find the level of self-deception appalling, if unsurprising. So, President Bush can be Today's Asshat yet again.
