Something very cool happened yesterday. The Space Shuttle Endeavour launched yesterday. This is, of course, cool in itself. Every time the space shuttle launches, or we do something space-related successful, we take one more slow step toward our future. This time is especially cool, though, because for the first time in 21 years, there is a teacher on board. Barbara Morgan was actually, according to the UK register, the reserve behind Christa McAuliffe for the Challenger's ill-fated 1986 mission. Now, 21 years and much training later, she's finally going into space.
My thoughts and prayers are with them for a successful mission and a safe return, with America for further commitment to the peaceful (Hear that, Darth Cheney? Peaceful!) exploration of space, and with the souls of those lost on the Challenger, especially that of Christa McAuliffe, whose mission is finally completed, 21 years later. Whereever you are, I hope you're enjoying this moment.
