So I didn't really know what to expect from
Alien Hallway, no telling where I bought it from. Probably as part of some bundle or other. That doesn't really matter, what does matter is that it was a fun diversion for the couple of hours it took me to plow through it and get tired of it.
The game is a... well there's probably a specific genre for this. It's essentially what you get when you take the basics of tower defense and layer on a smidgen of RTS. The units from both sides march straight at each other and then engage in combat when they're in range, so you get a gigantic melee in the middle of the stage where you have to keep throwing men and materiel into. I swear I played a game like this before, only it was fantasy-themed.
For the most part your decisions are limited to choosing what troops to deploy and when, though you can directly contribute to the fight with your Airstrike ability. As the player you also get to control the special ability a few units have to lob grenades into the fray - it's done intuitively by clicking on a grenade symbol above the unit's head. Units have various costs in energy, which you have to deploy little Engineer robots to collect for you. The gameplay never changes from this style, it just gets harder and harder.
There's also very few changes in the scenery, maybe 3, with some very minor variations in the stages such as moving where the power collection points your engineers go to. There's a fair variety of aliens to zap and blast and a nice selection of units to build.
All in all, it was worth the money I paid for it, which I presume was smaller than the 5 bucks it costs on Steam right now.
You know I might have a gaming problem when I can't remember where I got a game from...
