2012 - Gaming to Come

Jan 25, 2011 10:08

Man I roleplay a lot. In fact I think I'm actually playing as much now as I was back in Auckland when I didn't have kids! My regular (or semi-regular) games are -
  • Fortnightly Monday game of Warhammer Fantasy (at Luke & Sam's place) - I play Alderbrand, a young, fiery priest who is out to right wrongs and find a good match for the only female in the party (Sam's Elle). The game is just fun with little overhead in actual roleplaying effort (Alderbrand is just Marcus with a focus on helping people - or hacking things apart when he gets angry - he has a bit of an Anger management issue!). I can see, unless anything untoward happens, this campaign going on for most - if not all of the year!
  • Fortnightly Friday Night game - You can't ask more of a Friday night than half-a-dozen friends, some wine, chips and a conversation that will soon hit the gutter :P We aim to play various short campaigns on these nights and Mash has put his hand up for running a Werewolf story starting in the New Year. I look forward to seeing how this pans out!
  • Monthly Savage Worlds game - Last year I had the pleasure of meeting up with a few other local gamers and this has developed into a monthly game night. At the moment we are sort of experimenting with various SW settings, but we have a plan to run cross-setting time travelling game (allowing the players to have whatever type of character they want in the story) soonish!
  • Irregular Skype game - WIth a pretty solid cast now in place, Skype gaming is a lot of fun (especially when you're playing with old friends).  Up until now I've been doing all the GMing (mostly one-offs or Dragon Age), but Darryn has expressed an interest in running a Mouse Guard game, that I'm keen to be part of. I also have an urge to run another Space: 1889 campaign over this media, but we'll just have to see!
So, as you can see, I game a lot! And when you add to this my idea of running yet another campaign for a group in Wellington you won't be surprised to hear that I'm a little concerned that I'm stretching myself. :P

Instead, rather than writing and running yet another campaign (which was sporadic at best last year), I think I'll look to share my gaming love around. There is the guys up in Palmerston North who I've been threatening to run a game for for years, and I'd love to have the opportunity to gather together the same group who playtested my Si..gn..al adventure at least once or twice.

Finally, I'm taking on the responsibility of running Fright Night this year, and I have big shoes to fill! I really want FN to a different sort of con, and after a rather interesting conversation with Mash & Dale (and others) I realise that there are a number of hurdles to be faced in bringing the best damn night in gaming to Wellington!
