--I've taken to wearing ties recently. I like 'em. Not clip-ons either. I know how to tie a tie fool! (say that several times fast, the phrase, not "that" and preferably without the fool epithet). Anyway, what does this have to do with me wanting things. I don't have a tie-bar. I tie bar is a nifty little thing that keeps the two ends of your tie together, ya know, so you don't see the back peeking out, rather you just see the front of the tie (Which is the point). So I want one. Something along the lines of
this. Ya know, simple, neat, but not to austere, and relatively affordable.
I had a whole list of other things I wanted, but now I can't remember any of 'em. That's life I guess.
--More about ties. I have one that I particularly like that I bought in...Paris! Yeah, a couple of weeks ago (03-06 February) I went to Paris. Saw mostly the usual tourist thing: Louvre, Notre Dame, Eiffel Tower, Musee d'Orsay, Arc de Triumph, Champs d'Elysees. But there were other things I saw that weren't so typical, though maybe not _too_ out of the ordinary for a tourist.
--One of these things happened to be a market (I can't remember where now, but it was slightly hard to find). There were two parts of it, one was your open air flea market in the streets, another sold produce, fresh flowers, and seafood. The produce market was actually more remarkable than the flea market simply because everything was displayed in the most gorgeous manner possible. I've never seen raw fish look so appetizing (sorry, I'm just not into sushi). Anyway, I bought a very nice tie at the flea market part, which was interesting enough in itself. It's art deco and unlike today's ties it's cut flat at the bottom rather than having the traditional tie point. I happen to like that it also has white diamonds stitched into it that tell you where you should make the knot, and there's another set right below the knot, once it's been tied. It's black and copper, mostly black with copper stripes going down it, I'll have to take a picture, it's just too awesome.
--I also went to a French Irish pub (The Guiness Tavern) and drank a pint of Strongbow Cider (good stuff I recommend it). Unfortunately when I tried to order another round the server was a complete ass and said that the rates had gone up from 5 or 6 Euro to 11 because the band was "playing," which they weren't, they were still warming up and it was 10:30. But that was only one bad experience out of about 40 really good ones, it was more disappointing because I was really excited just to be hanging out in a dark pub with a good alcoholic beverage and nowhere to be in the morning.
--I also went on the Sewer Tour. It was intriguing, smelly, and disturbing to be in an underground museum located over God knows how many moving liters of waste. But interesting nonetheless. I liked the small display of swords and daggers they found in the sewers, but then I like shiny pointy things (not that I would want my personal stock to come from the sewer...even if it is French Revolutionary weaponry).
--Also went to the Erotica Museum on the Parisian version of the Oregon District in Dayton (Antioch students know what I'm talking about). Of course the Parisian version is somewhat more congested with all sorts of shops and live shows...and I think it's a lot bigger. Weird thing was, in the day time people apparently walk their kids along the strip. Don't know why...I don't _think_ they were tourists. Then again there was a Monoprix on the corner. Monoprix is kinda like the European version of a classier walmart. I'd recommend the Erotica Museum, although my mother probably wasn't the person to go with, but hey, she was buyin'...uh, the tickets, not anything pornographic or anything. The museum was 99% heterocentric, but it did cover a good range of cultures. They had a good selection of Japanese Erotica, woo boy, some of that stuff is interesting.
