Saris and Head Colds (updated)

(update: I have just noticed, not that my brain is more functional, that this post is approx 11,000 words long. I am hiding most of it beneath the jump, because otherwise I have just spammed everyone with bitching about my sinuses. Sorry, everyone...)

I had a wonderful post all planned out, really I did. It was going to be about Divali and how I ( Read more... )

Wow! What a nightmare. :( I was going to email you to check if all was well - glad I didn't as another email in your inbox is another one to answer or have to put off answering. I'm so sorry to hear you're not well and would gladly have brought you tea were I not 5000 miles away. It would have been Darjeeling in honour of the tea the bishop's friend is cultivating. :)

Happy Diwali to you! I have a fabulous view over London from my flat and enjoyed watching the firework displays going on around the city on Wednesday. Nearer to home, someone was letting off fireworks with loud bangs behind my block of flats for a couple of hours until almost midnight!

I can report that while saris are pretty, they're a pain to wrap correctly and keep up - I much prefer the shalwar kameez, which I wore often when I was spending a lot of time in the Middle East.

As for Bollywood recommendations - I'll ask my daughter's boyfriend. :)

*hugs you and sends you healing vibes*

Not emailing might have been wise on your part--I don't know if it would have cheered me up or just stressed me out. Sad, that I got to that point! But it's done now, until January. (I still have school until mid-December, but only 2 days a week. YAY.) I can be Sane Again ( ... )

I can recommend shalwar kameez - I've got one, it's very comfortable and practical for any activity that could be comfortably carried out wearing a dress. Though I have found that my evil husband has a tendency to call me 'the blue wizard' when I am wearing it, for some reason.

Hope you feel better soon : it sounds like you have been very hectic!

i LOVE that idea! Wear it when you are supposed to wear a dress (not that I ever got to those occasions, but I could...), and I would get the added bonus of not having to shave my legs.

Perhaps I should not have mentioned that bit. Nevertheless! Is important consideration, yo.

Also, Blue Wizard = BAH. Who does not want to wear blue all day long?

My body is forcing me to rest, so I guess it's all for the good...

*cuddles you and brings you tea* Still trying to talk the bf into finishing our West Coast tour, btw. It still might happen - we were robbed!

BB you have made my night! I *highly* support and pimp the idea of coming out to Seattle. Lots. I will take you to Naked City Brewery and fill you with microbrews. You were robbed indeed--never made it to the Pacific Northwest. (Sadly, part of me was glad that it was a mountain in Montana that did you in, rather than the Cascades. That would have been awkward.)

I hope you're feeling better today :/ Sounds like life's putting you through the ringer right now. Hoping you're getting lots of rest.

Oh GOD give me All The Microbrews! I'd love to get over there. Here's hoping the bf and I can swing something and take our actual vacation. I hate that mountain but am glad for it all the same time- if we didn't crash into it, I'd never have known about the toomah! Did you see the newest pic of the scar, btw? It's healed up nicely!

You poor thing! Being sick on top of everything else that is going on sucks, especially when there is no one around to take care of you! D: *cuddles and pets you and brings you lots of blankets, and tea, and chocolate*

FEEL BETTER, BB ♥

Oh no! That sounds completely rubbish, I hope things get better soon.

On a slightly different note, I've had more success with Zantac (ranitidine, I think, is the non-brand name)than antacids when I've had acid reflux. I'm not sure if it suits everyone, but it might be worth a go if you get it again.

Oh yes, it was a really crappy night. I started out really wanting The Captain to be home to fuss over me, and ended up glad he wasn't, because I didn't really want him to ever see his wife as whimpery as I became...

Zantac What a good idea! seriously, thank you... the tums did zero, which was disappointing to say the least. 8 should do something, right? I will get some ranitidine (yay generics! cheaper!) and keep them on hand. THANK YOU BB.

I KNOW I FELT SO BAD. I am a disgrace to tea-drinkers everywhere. Fun fact: that is the ONLY way The Captain knew how to drink tea, until I met him and mostly sorted him out. He comes from a, shall we say, *less sophisticated* background than me ( ... )

We only wait until after Halloween because it's such a goram big holiday here that the makers of Halloween candy in the US actually convinced Congress to move Daylight Savings until after Halloween (it used to be the 2nd week of October) so that there would be light later in the evening, so people would do more trick or treating, and the candy companies would sell more mini-Snickers.

America! We have your corporate interests in mind!

I read a biography once of a woman whose parents were secular jews. Jews = no Xmas, but secular = no Hannukah either. So they just spent Decembers in their home by themselves, cold and alone, while everyone else in the neighborhood had cheerful festivities. I felt sad for her. As I feel sad for you! You should take yourself out to Dim Sum or something.
