Penultimate Angel ramble
Because these shows are striving to kill me!
Firstly, I'm dense, okay? I am a subtext hound, but I very rarely see big pictures and plot twists coming from a mile off. Hence, I spent most of this episode shouting and gasping and generally being shocked out of my mind.
First off - ships. Cos I love ships. Angel/Nina - I like it, and the little romp at the beginning cast enough doubt to make everyone wonder if Angel was indeed Angelus or not. Very nice.
Then, Spike/Illyria. Yes, I'm weird, but I saw Spike/Fred too, and the dynamic between the actors continues. I just loved the way they wandered around together, the outsiders, and it was very nice.
And Spike/Angel, which I never shipped until Jonny really helpfully pointed it out - and he doesn't slash at all! But, CANON! And I thought it was canon with their meeting, but oh no: 'Angel and me have never been intimate, except that one...'. *jaw hit floor and stayed there for a good ten minutes*
Then, the HUGE MISDIRECTION, and I really fell for it. Angel being eeeeevil, and me seeing Drogan all beat up, and the thing with Fred, and David Boreanaz really really sold it. But I couldn't possibly believe it, it just didn't work at all, and I was so so confused.
But they have set themselves up for a cracker of a finale, which I am still spoiler-free for. So, huh. I absolutely can't wait. :D
