I can't think. I can't breathe. I have spent forty minutes screaming at my television.
That was EPIC WIN. And EPIC! And AWESOME!
Can I try and be coherent about it for five minutes? Probably not.
So, we have two of the exclusive clips to start - with Arthur's extra oathiness and Merlin's complete and utter pride. Which Gwen calls him on, because she is a massive shipper.
And then Tristan arrives and the cute Welsh guy is set on the path to doom. But he does get a favour from Morgana, and Arthur giving him a pep talk. And then snuffs it, despite doing exactly what Arthur told him. Boo!
Uther stops Arthur fighting, which Arthur is majorly pissed about. But after the next knight falls, Arthur takes matters into his own hands. Because he is a stupid prat and we love him for it.
We then have Uther telling him not to do it, and then Merlin - the other exclusive clip. WHICH ENDED WITH ARTHUR HOLDING A SWORD TO MERLIN'S NECK! WHICH THE BASTARD NEVER APOLOGISED FOR. Hmph.
However, in this episode, even the het is slashy. The Morgana/Arthur scene didn't really happen, and then Gwen tells Merlin she knows he's proud of Arthur and he grins. And, oh my, the Uther/Gaius scene completely and utterly broke me.
BTW, the story of Arthur's birth? Awesome-sauce. When Arthur finds out about this, he's going to be pissed! And hurt. And in need of serious comfort, Merlin, take the hint!! I like Nimue's explanation and I have far more respect for her now.
The Dragon was an awesome bastard this episode, but Merlin completely failed him. Utterly. And now the Dragon is pissed off. I am so glad that shriek wasn't the Dragon getting slaughtered by Arthur, because I would be having words.
And Uther notices the Merlin/Arthur too. DADDY'S BLESSING! Arthur falling asleep was adorable, but angry!Arthur was HOT. Attempting to kick down the door was fantastic.
Finally, the stupid thing dies, and we get an Uther&Arthur scene of WIN. Actual parenting occurs! Arthur thought he was a failure, but Uther is proud. Arthur mocks him! They fight! EEEEEEEEEE!
And Merlin chucks the sword in the lake. Which was disappointing, actually - I wanted him to magic it into a stone, but ah well.
NEXT WEEK: MERLIN'S VILLAGE! Which looked a bit rubbish, really, UNTIL ARTHUR TURNS UP AND SEES THAT MERLIN IS MAGIC!
