I am on the Good Ship Vriska♦John - though I multiship furiously (and there's a team for multishippers) it is my favourite, after all. Like ten minutes after deciding on that I found a FST for them and suppressed the urge to paw at the computer screen a little, so sure, that seems like the right choice.
(And now I'm just going to babble about Homestuck pairings because feelings explosion. Also with spoilers for latest updates.)
It was so difficult!! to choose a team. What about Equius/Aradia? Vriska/Kanaya? Rose/Eridan? Karkat/John? Then there's my having fallen hard for Karkat/Gamzee recently, which, I don't even know. Gamzee is not really a character and Karkat/Gamzee is not really a ship, but here I am smearing Stoned Emotionally Neglected Berserker Clown/Rage Poet Dictator-Cum-Mother Hen Who Wants to Bone Himself out of Hate all over the walls. This fanart began the strange stirrings (Gamzee's face, I am but human), then came the update of the comic where Karkat says "He was my best friend" and it inspired me to start a fic and after that I lost it entirely. Seems like I have a thing for relationships that don't actually work, but the characters are still hanging around each other for some reason anyway.
Now there is the very latest update and Karkat saying he's worried about Gamzee being gone and. ha ha. right. thanks, shameful heart explosion right here.
I've also fallen for Rose/Gamzee, but that, at least, is just a ridiculous crack pairing in the grand tradition of fandom. Imagine, though! It would be so great having them undergo a gradual, hilarious, mutual descent into TERRIFYING TENTACLE-CLOWN SHIT.
Recent canon stuff:
- Rose-Dave interaction is one of my favourite things in the comic. That pesterlog from way back in the beginning where they both rap about smuppets and their various impertinent parts - well, it was hellishly surreal and I did not know what the fuck this comic was about but it was also brilliant. The tradition of Dave-Rose interaction being fantastic continues to this day, with those bloody heartbreaking talks about who gets to die for everybody else. NEITHER OF YOU. TALK ABOUT SPORTS MORE. Forget the Scratch. But I guess you can't forget DD ... and why is he there anyway!
- One a somewhat related note. It annoys me foolishly when people go on and on about the ectobiology thing. All four kids seem to function much as they did before, just going 'huh, we're related!' where appropriate, and then getting on with things. It didn't really seem to add a dimension to the actions of the related pairs, and their friendship is still the most important thing.
- John is creepy sometimes. The kids take the game seriously from the start, and he seemed to be doing the same thing in his Ultra Hopeful, Somewhat Naive Team Leader way ... and then lately came the way he kept going "oops Dad's dead" and "hey, is Rose alive again? That would be nice." It's weirdly detached, and all the other kids show more realistic reactions to death and pain. So John might be deeply repressed, secretly Lord English!!, or he thinks it's Just A Game, which would be very odd (please don't be Yamamoto, John, even though wow you would be good friends). Beta John in the dream bubble lets himself express sadness about Dad's absence, which was good to see, but does make Alpha John's reactions seem odder.
- Ha, John's face when he waves hi to Typheus, and Vriska not realising that he's treating this bloodthirsty monster with the same attitude as he treated her. John!! Vriska!! ♥
- Oh, fandom. It does the heart good to see how you have embraced FedoraFreak as the Gent of Piss in the land of Serious and Business. His land's consorts have to be penguins, for that besuited look.

- Between FedoraFreak's carefully rationed urine and Nepeta saying "beautyifful" (HA), there really isn't a joke that Andrew Hussie won't make.
- Nanna's backstory was disappointing in that she literally stayed home in the kitchen while her brother/fiance went off and surfed alligators down mighty rivers, and she also got abused for years. Still, her burning determination to take over the ... alien batterwitch's confectionary empire ... (WHAT IS THIS STORY LINE) was fabulous, and Betty is ice cold to hand over the company to Mr. Fiance that way. Anyway, Nanna got to indulge her pranking passion eventually and lacked bitterness enough that she passed on her baking skills to her son, so that's ace.
- haha Gamzee/Karkat, once again. Why would they be friends? But they are! Karkat actually worries about Gamzee's dizzy ass. And it looks like Karkat's about to find out that Gamzee's going to spend the next few hours introducing erotic asphyxiation and the desecration of corpses into the comic. (And make the desecration sort of adorable. The MOTHERFUCKING JURY was terrible. But ... also ... cute? In that decapitated roleplay party way! At least it proves sober Gamzee has a sense of humour.) Good luck with that, Karkat. And a memo to look forward to! Maybe it will be about what just happened on the roof, or stuff about Sollux taking Feferi's goggles off her decapitated head (!), or Kanaya dressing in a rainbow drinker outfit she always kept, just in case... so many good possibilities.
Unrelated: I love kink memes. Recently saw one with a request for one guy walking in on another one masturbating, and then cue "Akward moment and bondage". This is the way to deal with awkward moments for sure!
And another moment of surreality: People have decided that a live action Captain Planet movie is something that legit needs to happen. That must have required serious LSD, because how are you going to do that? It better be campy as hell, or if it's going to make an attempt at grimdark stoic action hero Captain Planet, it had better be campy as hell in the opposite direction.
I want to see this film so much.
