Squee has become part of my communication. I read an Afrikaans book that was very enjoyable - much more than expected, even - and it feels downright weird not to be able to go "Best book about a prostitute in a clay oven ever, everybody read it!!!" Sharing the love feels like an essential part of the appreciation. If I don't rec it I didn't like it ( Read more... )

You could totally squee anyway! Surely you are not the only person literate in Afrikaans on the internet!

I think I might have seen 1 around somewhere? I spent something like a week trawling through Sherlock fandom and then I was kind of okay! So. (But ooh, I might have to check out the HSAU. Mmmm, HSAUs, I am so weak to you.)
2, however. That. That would be BRILLIANT. :D:D:D:D:D

There aren't a lot of South Africans (or, as far as I've seen, Africans in general) in fandom, and besides, when I find random samples of Afrikaans people on the net, they're frequently of quite doubtful literacy or right-wing extremists. So. You know. Our interests don't overlap.

I think I might have seen 1 around somewhere?
OOH. Then I'll go look! And I really do wonder about issue #2. That scene at the closing of the third episode is slightly ridiculous, with the number of people that must be aiming at John and Sherlock.

Hmmm, sounds like an interesting place! I'll have to check it out later. :) And wow, a good HS AU?! I still have not ever read one, though I suppose I always shy away from them because they tend to be so bad...I'll see.

we_are_reason also has KHR recs. Ha, it's probably wisest to stay away from HS AUs, really. The ones that are bad are aggressively bad, and there are tons of them. But the one in that journal is great, promise.

Thank you! I'll check those authors out. :D

Bahaha, John is Moriarty!
When John stepped into the poolhouse, Sherlock made this face like "I should have known it was him!" and it seemed like a totally fascinating idea for an AU. And I'm so serious about wanting sniper-fic, it's ridiculous. WHERE DO THEY COME FROM.

I already feel like I'm missing something that is available in English but not very fandom-y or popular.
Is this something specific?

What about people around you in RL?
Often, Livejournal is what I turn to when the people around me have already heard me talk about Subject X until they want to beat me. :D Also, there aren't that many people I know who'd be interested in trying out this particular book.

It's a little sad that book fandoms are usually so much quieter than the rest. But if I come across Stendhal I shall give it a shot!

Oh, do I know that feeling; I must have driven people mad with some of my obsessions. XD
That's how we roll. *fistbump*
